The NSW Government has released the final report of the statutory review of the Building Professionals Act 2005 and the Government’s Response including proposals to stop gaps in the current Building Professionals Act with a view to rewriting the legislation in 2017; the establishment of a Building and Construction Service being an integration of existing bodies to align licensing, investigation and disciplinary actions; the implementation of best practice standards; and the implementation of a package of fire safety reforms. For further information see the Building Professionals Board webpage, the final report and the Government Response. It is unknown at this stage whether these changes will affect the conveyancing process but presumably will impact on pre-purchase enquiries. We will advise further as changes come into effect.
