Sometimes when you run with an idea you’re unsure where it will end up and if it will deliver what you intended.
In 2016, & Legal decided to partner with the University of Technology (UTS) and offer an annual $5,000.00 scholarship to entrepreneurial law students who could demonstrate a robust business case for a personal business enterprise.
We also offered mentoring and an opportunity of paid part-time employment.
We have so far offered two scholarships with a further scholarship to be decided later this year.
The remarkable thing that has come out of this idea is the discovery of the quality of these young legal minds. We currently have three former scholarship applicants working closely with out experienced lawyers and we are constantly amazed by how they add value to our practice.
This was never more in evidence than in early February 2018 when one of our UTS law clerks, Ms Jessica White took out first place in the law category of the annual Australia-wide Top 100 Future Leaders Competition.
We were delighted when Jessica was nominated in the top 100 and so her placing was a thrill to us at & Legal and deserved recognition of her skill, dedication and personal qualities.
So, like we said, when you run with an idea it can be amazing where things end up and who you meet and help along the way.
At the other end of the career spectrum & Legal acknowledges and celebrates the amazing coincidence of two of its’ alumni each celebrating 50 years of admission as solicitors.
Michael Dunkel and Leon Ratner were both admitted as solicitors on the “Ides of March” 15 March 1968. Little would they have realised on that day that their professional lives would intersect 45 years later in Double Bay when Michael’s former CBD firm joined & Legal in 2013.
